CBSE School Health Compliance Checklist 2026

CBSE Affiliation Bye-Laws Clause 14.6 requires an annual medical checkup and proper records for students. The January 2026 amendment to Clause 2.4.12 adds distinct socio-emotional and career counselling requirements. Use this working list to prepare your school; the additional equipment and programme ideas are good-practice checks, not a claim that every item is individually mandated by CBSE.

Medical room / infirmary

  • Designate a clean, ventilated space with a screened bed and hand-washing access.
  • Stock first-aid kits with dressings, bandages, gloves, antiseptic and a replenishment log.
  • Keep emergency medicines only under a doctor-approved protocol; check expiry dates and storage.
  • Check oxygen availability and staff training for its safe use.
  • Keep a stretcher or safe transfer plan and posted emergency contacts.
  • Arrange a referral tie-up with a nearby hospital and an ambulance contact.
  • Log each visit, treatment, referral and parent notification.

Health checkups

  • Arrange a medical checkup for every student at least once a year (CBSE Clause 14.6).
  • Record height, weight, growth and BMI with age-appropriate interpretation.
  • Include vision, dental and ENT screening in the school's screening plan.
  • Discuss whether haemoglobin screening is appropriate, with consent and qualified staff.
  • Maintain a health card or accessible health record for each student.
  • Share findings, referrals and follow-up advice with parents privately.

Counselling

  • Plan one socio-emotional counsellor / wellness teacher per 500 students.
  • Plan one career counsellor per 500 students in Classes IX–XII; check the current CBSE circular for applicability.
  • Verify each counsellor's qualifications against amended CBSE Clause 2.4.12.
  • Check the applicable part-time provision for smaller schools rather than assuming it applies to all roles.
  • Set confidentiality, safeguarding and parent-contact procedures.
  • Document a referral protocol for students needing specialist support.

Nurse and staffing

  • Arrange a qualified nurse for on-campus care where the school's needs and applicable rules require one.
  • Keep a named doctor on call and current escalation contacts.
  • Train designated teachers in first aid and refresh their skills regularly.

Records and documentation

  • Keep an annual student health register and follow-up status.
  • Maintain an incident and infirmary visit log.
  • Collect consent forms for screening, treatment and any sensitive referrals.
  • Restrict health-record access, define retention and provide a privacy notice.

Wellness programme

  • Schedule health education and age-appropriate adolescent education.
  • Address nutrition and healthy eating in lessons and school practices.
  • Plan regular physical activity and inclusive participation.
  • Adopt anti-bullying, safeguarding and referral procedures.
